LIVING HOPE ALLIANCE NORTH INDIA The Ganges River area of North India is one of the most heavily populated and also most needy areas of the world. The state of Uttar Pradesh (UP) - geographically only the size of an average US state - has a population of 174 million or over 1,900 people per square mile (there's about 84 people per square mile in the US). If it were a country, UP would be the seventh most populous nation in the world. An estimated 40% of these millions live below the poverty line. According to the 2001 census, 43% of males and 57% of females are still illiterate. CHANGING LIVES Living Hope Alliance has been transforming lives in North India since 1997. Over the years we've developed strong relationships with faithful and highly qualified Indian leaders. We also have a growing team of dedicated volunteers from America, England and Ireland who come regularly to visit our work in person. Thus both maximum efficiency as well as financial accountability are constantly upheld.
Here's just a few examples of our work in 2008 and 2009:
PROJECTS Currently almost all our projects are operated out of rented buildings. Our village schools have no building at all but meet under trees or in the village courtyard. In order to serve more people and to make our work independent of ongoing foreign funding, there is an urgent need for facilities. The urgent need currently is for the establishment of several SELF-SUFFICIENT facilities in key locations. These projects are detailed further on their corresponding pages.
